Arjun Reddy Review - A film that has changed my perception about South Indian films and South India6/21/2019 South India does not only consist of Tamil Nadu and the Tamil language. South India is made up of five states and they are Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. South Indians do not only speak Tamil. They can also speak Tulu, Konkani, Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada, depending on which state they originate from and what their mother tongue is. A Telugu-speaking person may not know Tamil and a Tamilian may not know Malayalam or Kannada. It just depends but yeah, South India is not about Tamilians, Bharatanatyam, Carnatic Music, idlis, dosas and Tamil Nadu. I normally do not watch South Indian films often. However, one of my South Indian friends, who speaks Tamil and is a big fan of the South Indian film Industry. Whether it is the Tamil or Telugu film Industry, he follows it very often. So one day, he recommended me to watch Arjun Reddy. Earlier, I thought that Arjun Reddy was the name of a person and not a film. However, he told me that there is a film called Arjun Reddy and he told me that I would love it. Normally, I would think that South Indian films are all about Tamil flying cars and Appadi Podu, a famous Tamil song in North India. However, after watching Arjun Reddy, my perception about South Indian films and music has changed. And personally, I started watching more South Indian films and listening to more South Indian music. So, now, I will not digress and will get to the main point. I am going to write a review about Arjun Reddy. Arjun Reddy is a 2017 Telugu (South Indian Language) drama film that talks about a marvellous student named Arjun Reddy (Portrayed by Vijay Devarakonda). Arjun Reddy is a brilliant medical student. However, he has anger management issues and gets into a brawl with a student from another college named Amith (Portrayed by Amit Sharma). After hearing about the incident, Arjun's college has told him to either apologise to Amith or leave the college. Initially, he chose to leave the college. However, after falling in love with Preethi Shetty (Portrayed by Shalini Pandey) at first sight, he decided to stay in the college. At the start, Preethi adjusts to Arjun's overbearing behaviour. However, as time passes by, she starts to develop feelings for Arjun. Arjun graduates with an MBBS degree and leaves to Mussoorie (A small town in North Indian state Uttarakhand), to pursue his masters degree in Orthopedic Surgery. Months later after coming back to Hyderabad (A city in South Indian state Telangana), Arjun visits Preethi at her house, where Preethi's father, Devdas Shetty (Portrayed by Gopinath Bhat), catches them kissing and throws Arjun out of the house. A few days later, Arjun hears that Preethi is going to get married to someone from her caste and society. As soon as he has learnt about it, he goes down to Preethi's house to object to the marriage but again, he was thrown out of the house. Ever since then, he starts to go into a self-destructive path, where he consumes drugs and drinks alcohol to the core. So, this is the first film that I have seen of Vijay Devarakonda's. And honestly speaking, his acting was MINDBLOWING! Yes, I am typing that in caps because I just love how explicit he was in the film and how he just made the character so believable and relatable. It is definitely not an easy character to play, but he has made it look so easy. But I am very sure that it was not easy for him to play such a character because I am very sure that he is not like that in real-life. In the Hindi version of Arjun Reddy, which is named as Kabir Singh, which releases today, Shahid Kapoor portrays the main lead, basically playing the character of Kabir Rajdheer Singh. Since Kabir Singh releases today, I would definitely want to watch it. But, not in cinemas. I will watch it once it is released on einthusan.tv. The attached website is where I always watch my South Asian films whenever I am out of India. Since the Kabir Singh trailer looks very promising in my eyes, I will definitely watch it! Coming to Shalini Pandey's performance. Well, it is normal for the South Indian film Industry, whether it is the Tamil or Telugu film Industry, they will take North Indian girls as the female leads most of the time. But even though she spoke little Telugu in the film, she portrayed the character of Preethi Shetty pretty well! So, Shalini's character comes from a very conservative community that originates from the city of Mangalore, that is located in the South Indian state of Karnataka. The supporting cast, which consists of Anisha Alla, Kalyan Subrahmanyam, Rahul Ramakrishna, Aditi Myakal, Gopinath Bhat, Kamal Kamaraju, Kanchana and Sanjay Swaroop were assigned to supporting characters in the film. They have made the film more entertaining with their scenes and acting skills. Now, I will go to the music of both Arjun Reddy and Kabir Singh. So, I have both the film's soundtracks on my phone and I will write about how I feel about both the soundtracks. First, I will obviously write about the soundtrack album of Arjun Reddy. The music of the film was good. However, it did not impress me as much as the soundtrack of Kabir Singh did. I did not like all the songs in Arjun Reddy. I only liked the songs Emitemitemito, Oopiri Aaguthunnadey and Madhurame. The other tracks did not impress me, but rather, I was just like "meh". So, I would probably give the Arjun Reddy soundtrack a 3/5, which I will add to the rating given at the end of the post. Now, let me write about the Kabir Singh soundtrack. Yesterday, I heard all of the songs and I was wowed by ALL the songs. There was so much emotion, passion and the voices are just so powerful, yet touching. Especially, I used to watch this singing show called The Voice India and seeing talents from this show like Sachet Tandon and Parampara Thakur composing one to two songs for the Kabir Singh soundtrack for a start shows that they have come a long way. The songs that both Sachet Tandon and Parampara Thakur have composed would be Bekhayali and Mere Sohneya, which are really beautiful songs by the way! But honestly, I loved all the other songs, which are Yeh Aaina, Pehla Pyaar, Tujhe Kitna Chahne Lage, Kaise Hua and Tera Ban Jaunga. Just download the Kabir Singh soundtrack guys! The songs are just so soothing to the ears and they are so moving emotionally, yet powerful. I will probably give this soundtrack a 4.5/5 because even though I was really impressed by the Kabir Singh soundtrack, the song Tera Ban Jaunga, was sung by Tulsi Kumar and Akhil Sachdeva. Even though I liked the song Tera Ban Jaunga, I felt that Tulsi Kumar's voice did not suit the song. But also, I am not a big fan of her voice as I feel it is too childish for my liking and it sounds like some 9-year-old is singing. So, that pulled down my personal ratings for the soundtrack album for Kabir Singh. Otherwise, it would have been a 5/5 for me! Kabir Singh's soundtrack would suit the story better than the soundtrack of Arjun Reddy. Arjun Reddy is a very relatable film for Indians because even though it is the 21st century today, not every Indian parent is open to an inter-caste, inter-faith or inter-cultural marriage or relationship. For them, especially most Brahmin parents, their caste is their pride and they would do anything to stick to their caste. There are Brahmin parents who are chilled, but also, there are those who are not. Also, Arjun Reddy shows that there are lovers like Arjun in the film, where one can go into a self-destructive mode of drinking 24/7, consuming cocaine, looking very unkempt and smoking to the core because he is only thinking about the love of his life all the time. But however, Arjun knew how to keep his personal and professional life separate. There are parents like Devdas Shetty, who would care about their caste and community more than their child's happiness and interests. There are girls like Preethi who are very passive by nature, but would fight for their love in a passive manner and patiently wait for him to come back to her. I just loved the whole story of Arjun Reddy. It is so real, moving and it is pleasant to watch as a whole. Kabir Singh releases today. So please, go and watch Kabir Singh! Please show your love to Shahid Kapoor because he broke his no smoking and no drinking rule just to do this film. He shares that he is an actor first before he is a star, which wins my heart further. I will attach the trailers of Arjun Reddy and Kabir Singh at the very end of the post! Should I watch it? Watch it! But I would also recommend watching Kabir Singh because Kabir Singh was directed by the same director as Arjun Reddy. The director's name for both Kabir Singh and Arjun Reddy is Sandeep Vanga. Who is it suited for? It is suited for: - Diehard Romantics - People aged 18 and above - People who do not follow inter-caste marriages. My Personal Film Rating: Music: 3/5 Screenplay & Dialogues: 4.5/5 Direction: 4/5 Storyline: 4/5 Performance: 5/5 Overall: 20.5/25 In 100s: 82/100 IMDB: 8.2/10

After Highway (2014), 2 States (2014), Udta Punjab (2016) and Dear Zindagi (2016), Alia Bhatt made another mark with a bang on her career with the film Raazi, which just boosted her career even further. Raazi is a 2018 spy thriller film that talks about a university student named Sehmat Khan (Portrayed by Alia Bhatt), the daughter of an Indian spy named Hidayat Khan (Portrayed by Rajit Kapur). As Hidayat's tumour in his lung is growing and he does not have much time left before his death, he wants Sehmat to take his position and to become a spy on his behalf to find out what Pakistan is planning against India prior to the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war. Sehmat becomes a spy and takes over the mission. The Indian Research and Analysis Wing, also known as RAW tells Sehmat that she will be married into a Pakistani family of military officers to relay information to India. Sehmat gets married to the youngest son of Brigadier Syed (Portrayed by Shishir Sharma), Iqbal Syed (Portrayed by Vicky Kaushal). More than the war between India and Pakistan, Sehmat faces the battle of love and patriotism, where Sehmat has to choose between her love, Iqbal and her country, India. First up, let me talk about Alia Bhatt... I can just say that after watching this film, I know why she has won lots of awards now! She was marvellous in this film! Mindblowing! Despite being a star kid, she has worked so hard in this film and only improves. her progress from her first film, Student of the Year (2012) to Highway (2014) to 2 States (2014) to Udta Punjab (2016) to Dear Zindagi (2016) to Raazi (2018) and then Gully Boy (2019) (Though Gully Boy is more around Ranveer Singh and that Alia may not have a big part in the film). Despite her not being the main lead in Gully Boy, she is on cloud nine right now. Other than her top notch acting, her look in this film was simply gorgeous! I loved how the makeup artist and the stylist for Alia's character for Raazi made her look so beautiful even in a simple wear like that of a churidar or a saree. I really adore Alia so much in Indian wear that I want to see her in traditional wear more often. She knows when to be graceful and when to be energetic. She carries the traditional Indian wear with so much grace and elegance that you would just want to wear Indian clothes more often. When it comes to her modern avatar, Alia immediately knows how to get into that shade. Alia is probably one of the most hardworking actresses in today's times. She has only improved over the years and has shown that not every star kid will take advantage of the fact that they were born to a Bollywood family. People like Janhvi Kapoor take so much advantage of that status that they just can't act. Janhvi Kapoor can't act, which is shown through her work in Dhadak (2018). I wish Alia all the success in this world because she never takes anything for granted and puts in her blood and sweat in whatever she does. Whether it is a classical item number in Kalank (2019) or the role of a spy in Raazi (2018), she just gives in her all and that is shown through how much we enjoy watching her movies as a whole. Alia is definitely one of the 11 Indian women that I adore and after Raazi, I just adore her a lot more than I normally do. It's the same thing with Ranbir Kapoor. I had no impression of him earlier, until Sanju (2018). After watching Sanju, I fell in love with Ranbir Kapoor, like madly. I really want to see Alia Bhatt overtake Deepika Padukone in the long run. Coming to Vicky Kaushal, he was marvellous! Although Sanju was the first film of his that I have seen, I did not pay much attention to Vicky so much in Sanju. I paid a lot more attention to him in this film and I can say that he is one of the finest actors that we have in this generation. I wish that Vicky would prosper with lots of success and awards because people like Vicky Kaushal are needed to raise the hopes of Hindi cinema. I loved the chemistry that Vicky and Alia shared together in this film and I definitely want to see them doing more films together. Ranbir Kapoor should also do a film. So it should be a trio consisting of Vicky Kaushal, Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. That would be amazing! Amruta Khanvilkar, who played Vicky Kaushal's sister-in-law in the film, was great in her role. Though her role was not that big, she did it well. I definitely would rather see her doing more Hindi films rather than talentless people like Deepika Padukone or Janhvi Kapoor. There are so many actors and actresses who are so deserving to be in Bollywood, but it is just so sad how talentless people get so much more fame than talented people like Amruta Khanvilkar. And coming to the other supporting actors, Rajit Kapur, Shishir Sharma, Soni Razdan and Jaideep Ahlawat, they all did really well in whatever roles they were assigned to do. Before I talk about the music of the film, let me talk about the director, Meghna Gulzar. Meghna has literally tapped into Alia's acting skills and has brought out the best in her. She has brought out so much in Alia that she has shown to the world Alia's actual acting potential. Thank you Meghna, for having so much faith in Alia and for believing in her so much. I love that Meghna actually taps into one's acting skills to bring out the best in an actor or actress. Even though I love Meghna Gulzar, I am definitely not looking forward to seeing Chhapaak (2020), which will star Deepika Padukone as the main lead. Chhapaak touches on the life of an acid attack survivor, where Deepika Padukone will play the role of an acid attack survivor. I would probably have a nightmare seeing such a frightful story. Finally, I come to the music of the film. The songs were composed by the trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. At the start, I was not a fan of this film's music. But however, after watching this film, I have fallen in love with the music. I don't know how, I don't know why... The love just came like that and I guess I needed to watch the videos before actually appreciating the music. Honestly, I find Raazi unconventional because normally patriotic Indian films will have men as the main leads. However, this film, has a female as the main protagonist of the film. It is a change that is slowly coming into Hindi cinema, where we will see women as the main leads of the film. Women like Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Anushka Sharma, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, support this change. Hindi cinema is slowly evolving and showing that women are as capable as men. I am actually very happy that I have watched this film. Meghna Gulzar has shown that women who are spies for India or who sacrifice their lives just to protect India should also be recognised. I think this is a really great initiative for India to grow into a country of actual gender equality. Should I watch it?
You must! Take time to appreciate your country, the soldiers and the spies who actually sacrifice their lives just to keep you all safe. Be proud of being an Indian! Who is it suited for? It is suited for: - Indians - People who love patriotic films. - People of all ages... Just that with kids, parents are needed around them. My Personal Film Rating: Music: 4/5 Screenplay & Dialogues: 4/5 Direction: 5/5 Storyline: 4/5 Performance: 5/5 Overall: 22/25 In 100s: 88/100 IMDB: 8.8/10 This film is probably the first time that an International film director has made Indians restore their faith in Bollywood and Indian Cinema as a whole. Beyond The Clouds is a 2018 Hindi film that was released in India. Fun fact, before the film was released in India, the film was released on 20th of November 2017, at the International Film Festival of India. So, this film talks about a boy named Amir Neshan (Portrayed by Ishaan Khatter), who deals with drugs to make his bread and butter. His dream is to become rich and to lead a good life. He wants to improve his sister, Tara Neshan's (Portrayed by Malavika Mohanan) life as well. However, one day, his dreams and desires goes into the gutter when Tara got arrested for hitting Akshi (Portrayed by Gautam Ghose) with a hard stone on his head as it was her defense mode to prevent Akshi from raping her. Akshi was admitted to hospital and Amir's dreams are ruined since then. Amir makes sure that Akshi would recover so that Tara gets released from jail. From then on, Amir's future depends on Akshi's condition. Ishaan Khatter has proven his class through his acting in this film. I mean, despite coming from a filmi line with Rajesh Khatter as his father and Shahid Kapoor as his half-brother (Though their bond is more like biological brothers), Ishaan has shown that not all star kids take advantage of their filmi background and just act for the sake of it. He acts because he is passionate about it. Ishaan knew how to get into the shade of Amir Neshan and has portrayed the character's feelings really well! Coming to Malavika Mohanan, she is beautiful off-screen. I mean, she is a Malayali after all, so Malayali girls are bound to be really gorgeous. But in the film, she really looked so poor and ragged that she really studied the character well! It's sad that she did not get nominated for the Best Debut by a female actress award in 2019 for her performance in Beyond The Clouds. It's actually sad that Bollywood favours Nepotism over talent at least 60% of the time. It's sad that people like Janhvi Kapoor can get the Best Female Debut award for such lousy acting. I would have understood if it was Sara Ali Khan. However, why Janhvi Kapoor? Now, coming to Gautam Ghose, he is mainly the negative character of this film as he wanted to harm Malavika in this film by attempting to rape her. He has perfectly portrayed the role of a poor man who behaves like an animal. Though it would be wrong of me to say that every man is an animal just because of one bad man. Like I said, it all comes down from person to person. An educated man will know that a no means no. An uneducated man will not respect a woman or anybody's decision and will force a woman to give him what he wants. Sharada, who played Gautam's mother in the film, spoke perfect Tamil despite being a Telugu-speaking woman. The two other girls, Dhwani Rajesh and Amruta Santosh Thakur, who played the roles of being Akshi's older and younger daughter respectively, have gotten into the shades of their respective characters. The music for this film, which was mostly instrumental music, was composed by A.R. Rahman. Though he is not my favourite Bollywood music composer of all-time, he has literally won my heart through the background music compositions, which were basically the instrumentals in the film soundtrack. But I think what really impressed me the most was the fact the the director, Majid Majidi, despite being an Iranian, has really shown the authentic side of Mumbai. He has not portrayed Mumbai in a glamorous and pompous way like how most Bollywood film does, but he has shown the poor side of Mumbai, how poor people struggle to make ends meet every day. He has also shown that poor people will do anything to improve their life as their only priority is to survive every day. I believe that this film teaches us so many things that can actually help us in our life, such as always prioritising your education first so that you do not face poverty in the future. And, so that we have our own identity. Another thing that this film has shown me is that children are the purest forms of beings in this world. And the character Chotu (Portrayed by Shivam Pujari), has proven it. So many thoughts on why his mother passed away, where is she living, why he is in jail and all of that runs in a child's mind every single day, especially when he was born in prison. It's very saddening because a child does not deserve to be born in prison. Should I watch it?
It is a heart-touching story... Please watch this film with your loved ones. Who is it suited for? It is suited for: - Fans of realism - People who want to see the other side of Mumbai - People aged 13 and above My Personal Film Rating: Music: 4/5 Screenplay & Dialogues: 4/5 Direction: 4/5 Storyline: 4/5 Performance: 5/5 Overall: 21/25 In 100s: 84/100 IMDB: 8.4/10 Would you actually believe that honour killing does not happen in today's times? Well, it still does until today. It is sad but true. NH10 has shown the brutal reality of the Indian society, especially in the North of India. NH10 is a 2015 Crime Drama film which revolves around a married couple, Meera Singh (Portrayed by Anushka Sharma) and Arjun Puri (Portrayed by Neil Bhoopalam). Both Meera and Arjun were headed off for a weekend trip out of the city of Gurgaon to celebrate Meera's birthday during the weekend. However, during their road trip, they see a group of goons chasing a couple named Pinky (Portrayed by Kanchan Sharma) and Mukesh (Portrayed by Tushar Grover). Arjun, wanting to help the couple, approaches Satbir (Portrayed by Darshan Kumar), the leader of the group of goons and asks him if there is any problem. Satbir slaps him and goes off with his group, Mukesh and Pinky. Arjun and Meera both follow the gang and witness honour killing, where Pinky's brother, Satbir kills Mukesh with Arjun's gun and poisons his own sister, Pinky. Both Mukesh and Pinky were killed for marrying out of their own caste. Chhote (Portrayed by Ravi Beniwal), has the keys to Arjun and Meera's car. Arjun has asked Chhote to return the car keys. However, Chhote was stubborn and refused to give the car keys. Arjun then shoots Chhote and he dies. Arjun and Meera runs off and the gang decides to chase and kill them from then on. This is when the chase starts. When I saw the trailer, I was mind blown and knew that this film would be really promising to the audience. However, at the start, I was a little hesitant to watch this movie only because I thought it was really violent from whatever snippets I saw on television when I was in India I think in 2017. However, I was desperate to watch this movie. So, before I watched this movie, I started watching more violent films or more films that talks about crime and honour killing so that I am able to absorb in the brutal scenes and watch it without fear. Coming to Anushka Sharma's performance, when I saw this film, I was like: How can Anushka not receive an award for this performance in 2016? It's not easy to play such a role because you have to see murders in front of you. She is a courageous and strong woman for playing this role. Anushka's performance has made me realised that Award Ceremonies in India are a hoax. Deepika Padukone only won awards because the film was popular, not because her acting was that good. Anushka Sharma and Priyanka Chopra act much better than Deepika does, but still, it's sad to see that Deepika gets all the awards. Even Anushka's husband, Virat Kohli, praised Anushka for her performance in the film and also felt that she should have won the Best Actress Award in the year of 2016. He was mind-blown while watching this film. Enough of Anushka, let me come to Neil Bhoopalam. Neil was amazing in the role of Arjun Puri. He knew how to change his behaviour in different moods. It was just a joy to see both Anushka and Neil together in the film. Neil is just a joy to watch. I hope to see more of his films in the future. I have seen him in Lust Stories (2018), but I want to see more of Neil Bhoopalam. Coming to the supporting cast, I loved how Darshan Kumar nailed the negative character of Satbir, a ruthless goon who killed his own sister for dishonouring their caste. The rest of the caste was amazing in portraying how village people who follow their caste strongly behave, think and do. Coming to Deepti Naval, who played Ammaji, the village chief, in the film, I think that she has shown how a village chief feels and behaves and all of that. A village chief is always conscious about what the society thinks of him or her and wants to stick to his or her caste to be proud of their caste. One thing that I love about this film was that it is direct and there were no songs, so the film is short and direct. There is a soundtrack released for this movie, but I am glad that they did not make unnecessary music videos for this film. They just added some background music with the songs from the soundtrack and played it and that's how we can appreciate the music. Especially using the song Le Chal Mujhe (Female Version), which was sung by Shilpa Rao, as the background song for the party scene of the film, is amazing! Bollywood seriously needs to learn from NH10, on when to use music videos and when not to, so that the movie is not draggy. It is sad that things like honour killing still exists in today's times, in the 21st century. And not just in rural areas of India, it exists in the urban areas of India as well. You will probably be surprised because we all know that Kerala (A state in South India) is the most literate state in the whole of India. So, you would expect Malayalis to be all open-minded and all of that. However, not everyone in Kerala is that open-minded. And yes, honour killing also does not only happen to Hindus, it can happen to Christians as well. Click right here to read about the honour killing incident that happened in Kerala in 2018. And also, just because South India is generally more educated than North India in terms of literacy rate, it does not guarantee that all South Indians would think in an advanced way. It also does not guarantee that all North Indians are backward in their mind set. It is from person to person. In fact, honour killing also happens in urban South India by the way. Click here for the story of honour killing that happened in Hyderabad, a city located in the South Indian state Telangana. Honestly, after reading about the honour killing stories above, I have learnt that it happens every where in India. Anushka and Neil, in this film I mean, have shown that education is really important because with education, it changes our mind set and makes us into more open-minded people. However, that may not always be the case because if honour killing still happens in an urban city like Hyderabad and the most literate state like Kerala, then that is when education is useless. What people in India and Indians need to learn is that:
Should I watch it?
It is an amazing story! You can watch it again and again. But however, if you are desperate to watch this film but can't take violent scenes, then I would suggest that you watch more films on violence, blood and honour killing and prepare yourself to be able to absorb violent scenes before you watch this film Who is it suited for? It is suited for: - People who want realistic films - People who want to be fed with great content - People aged 18 and above. Do not show children this or they will get nightmares. Brutal realities will scare them. My Personal Film Rating (I have started this section to score the film as per my experience from watching this film. You guys can trust me on my ratings. This is my personal rating, which will be different from the average ratings given online!): Music: 4/5 Screenplay & Dialogues: 3.5/5 Direction: 3.5/5 Storyline: 4.5/5 Performance: 5/5 Overall: 20.5/25 In 100s: 82/100 IMDB: 8.2/10 Ok, so it's been like more than two months that I did not write any reviews. I was in India and I did not have access to einthusan.com. So, I apologise for that. But now, I am back! So today, I am going to write about Bajirao Mastani. Bajirao Mastani is one of the biggest hits in the year of 2015 thanks to the main cast. However, the story has really bad lessons for the audience, which is why I do not recommend on watching this film. Bajirao Mastani is a 2015 Historical Romance film that talks about a Maratha king named Peshwa Bajirao (Portrayed by Ranveer Singh) who is married to Kashibai (Portrayed by Priyanka Chopra Jonas), but cheats on Kashibai and falls in love and marries Mastani (Portrayed by Deepika Padukone) and takes both Kashibai and Mastani as his wives. Both Bajirao and Mastani fight for their love against the society in Maharashtra. Let me first write about the performance about the lead actors first. Ranveer Singh, who portrayed the character of Peshwa Bajirao, was really good at his portrayal. He has perfectly portrayed Bajirao's character of being shameless, selfish and ignorant. Ranveer Singh is probably a shameless man in his own way in real life that is probably why it was easier for him to get into the role of Bajirao rather than Khilji. And now coming to Deepika Padukone, she was good in her role but she did not impress me as much as Priyanka Chopra Jonas did. I mean, Deepika did not impress me because one, she was boring by being subtle 24/7 and two, I hate her character. Women like Mastani exist in this world as well by the way. Mastani, for me, is a woman who is shameless, selfish and arrogant. She will do anything for her own happiness, even if that means chasing a married man and leaving her family behind and breaking a married man's family. And the main star of the film is Priyanka Chopra Jonas. Although Priyanka Chopra played a supporting character in the film, Priyanka was into the character. Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the director of the film, has literally tapped into her acting skills and brought out the best in her. He has actually brought all the attention to Priyanka unknowingly, when in fact, he wanted all the attention to be on Ranveer and Deepika. Let me come to the supporting cast now. Tanvi Azmi, who portrayed the role of Peshwa's mother in the film, did really well in her shade, where she treats courtesans as crap. Well, that is how courtesans are treated in India. They are treated like trash. Mastani is not only a warrior princess, but a professional courtesan who would dance at the court of Peshwa Bajirao's family. So that's why Tanvi Azmi did not respect Deepika in the film. Also, Deepika broke Priyanka's marriage no and that Deepika is a muslim in the film, that's why Tanvi could never accept Deepika as her daughter-in-law in the film. By the way, courtesans are basically prostitutes in the historical times. Vaibhav Tatwawaadi was amazing as Chimaji Appa. I loved how he portrayed the role of a man who is loyal to his religion, cast and how he is against Bajirao for marrying Mastani and against the Muslim faith. Well, in the past, Hindus and Muslims are hardcore rivals. And Hindu families would never accept a muslim daughter or son-in-law. Well, it still exists today, unless you are in a modern society like that of Mumbai and Bollywood or maybe in the West. Ayush Tandon, who portrayed Bajirao and Kashibai's oldest son, Nana Saheb, has perfectly portrayed the feelings of a child who has a parent who was cheated upon. I can totally relate and understand this situation and I think that Nana Saheb's hatred for Mastani is valid. If it were me, I would have hated Mastani and her son as well. It's just a natural instinct that comes out. You would hate someone who ruined the marriage of your parents and you would hate the child of a home wrecker or a mistress. And now coming to the music, which is composed by the director Sanjay Leela Bhansali himself, I did not exactly like a few tracks, though my favourite tracks were Mohe Rang Do Laal and Pinga and Gajanana. To be honest, I had a lot of problems with this film. The main reason was the bad lessons given through this film. People are saying that Bajirao and Mastani's relationship is love. But truth is that a person who wrecks a marriage is called a mistress, not a lover. A mistress will never gain respect from anybody. Mastani is the mistress and I can see why the whole Maratha society hates Mastani. Bajirao is also no different from Mastani, both shamelessly get into a relationship after 5 to 10 minutes of being physically attracted to each other. Like... What kind of relationship is this? And what was worse is that Mastani's parents, primarily her father, has encouraged his daughter to chase a married man as she is in love with him. This is just ridiculous like literally! So, the bad things of the films is:
I just cannot believe that Sanjay Leela Bhansali would even think of making such a film from decades. To be honest, the only film that I liked that was directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali was Devdas (2002). At least that film did not have such bad morals. I agree that anything can happen, and that's why I would suggest to everyone, since you have to settle down eventually, be with one person for the rest of your life. You can get married at 24, 37 or 47, but as long as the guy or girl you are going to marry will be for life and that you are very very sure that you will not hurt your spouse by committing adultery shamelessly like how Bajirao did to Kashibai with Mastani. After seeing this film, I just feel so sad that the audience does not care about whether the film has something good to teach us or not. Sometimes, knowingly or unknowingly, we learn something from films. Now, in Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006), yes the film did show adultery and that Shahrukh Khan and Rani Mukherjee were cheating on their respective spouses in the film. However, the director Karan Johar, did not show Shahrukh and Rani to be taking it as love and he has shown that in the film, both Shahrukh Khan and Rani Mukherjee know that what they are doing is wrong, they know that cheating on their spouses is wrong. But they did the right thing by telling the truth to their spouses and then in the future, not shamelessly going back to their respective families. Preity has said to Rani in the film that her marriage with Shahrukh was broken long ago, but Rani should not have come in between their relationship and fill the void between Shahrukh and Preity. Rani's character, Maya Talwar, is a better woman than Mastani because at least Maya had the shame and she knew that what she did was wrong. After both Rani and Shahrukh divorced their respective spouses in the film, both Rani and Shahrukh did not meet because they just don't want to be seen as shameless and selfish. Shahrukh was humble enough to meet Preity after a few years in the film, like post their divorce, to say bye to Preity and his son in the film. And before saying bye to Preity and his son, he has apologised to Preity with genuine pain and regret that he has no right to ask forgiveness from Preity and that he deserves whatever punishment comes his way. But he doesn't want to stop blessing Preity because he knows that she deserves all the happiness in this world and that she does not deserve a crappy guy like Shahrukh in the film, character wise I mean. And coming to the most recent film, Kalank (2019), Aditya Roy Kapur did get married the second time, but however, it was not out of love. It was not because he fell in love with Alia Bhatt and cheated on Sonakshi Sinha in the film. As Sonakshi was going to die of cancer and did not want Aditya to spend the rest of his life alone, she asked Aditya to marry Alia in the film. Aditya, who loves Sonakshi a lot, got married to Alia upon her request. Post Aditya and Alia's marriage, Aditya told that the bond that Alia and Aditya share will be out of respect and there will be no love as Aditya loves Sonakshi only and will even love her after she passes away. The situation in Kalank is absolutely different because Sonakshi knows that Aditya is a faithful man and she said it is ok for him to marry the second time as she was going to pass away anyway and did not want Aditya to keep on crying every day. Personally, the situation in Kalank for me, is not wrong because, your spouse knows it and asked you to do it. I mean, it is nice for both the spouses to think of each other. I don't know how to explain it but I can definitely say that the situation in Kalank is definitely not adultery. And by the way, once Kalank is out, that is when I will write my film reviews on both Kalank and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. Should I watch it?
Just watch it one time and skip most of the parts and just watch Priyanka Chopra in the film. Deepika and Ranveer will not excite you as much as Priyanka does. However, if you follow your morals highly, do not even think of watching this film because this film is so screwed up that you will learn a lot of bad things. Who is it suited for? It is suited for: - Priyanka Chopra lovers - People who have no morals, are arrogant and shameless - People who believe that adultery is love and that a mistress has no right of being called a mistress. The Khiladi series is the series which has earned Akshay Kumar the nickname of Khiladi, along with boosting up his career in the early 90s. He is an action hero and a guy who is popular among the women. Khiladi is a 1992 Action Thriller film that revolves around four junior college students, Raj (Portrayed by Akshay Kumar), Boney (Portrayed by Deepak Tijori), Neelam (Portrayed by Ayesha Jhukla) and Sheetal (Portrayed by Sabeeha). The four of them love to make casual bets and play pranks on other people in their college. So, one day, the four of them decided to play a prank on Sheetal's father, Kailash Nath (Portrayed by Prem Chopra) and tell him to give INR500000 (US$7142.86) to release Sheetal from being kidnapped. So, he gives them INR 500000. However, Sheetal was murdered by a mysterious person. The movie then turns to Raj, Boney and Neelam in finding out who the real murderer is and why he killed Sheetal. Akshay was just... CHARMING TO THE CORE! I loved him in this film, especially when he had to pretend to be a female, which totally made me laugh till I fell on the floor. This film has just made me fall in love with him even more. I love his style of acting and the way he liberates himself on screen. And I fell in love with Akshay and his acting! Deepak was just comical in this film! He has lightened up the thrill in this film, which makes us excited and engaged while watching the film. Especially the scene where he dressed up as a female and acted like one really made me laugh to the floor. The leading ladies, Ayesha Jhukla and Sabeeha, have added their charm to the film. Ayesha was good as the innocent new girl in Akshay's college in the film. You know, Shakti Kapoor, who is known for his villanous roles in the yesteryear generation of Bollywood, played the supporting character in the film as Akshay's brother. I was shocked that he was playing Akshay's brother, whereas it could have been Sanjay Dutt who did this role, or Anil Kapoor. The other supporting actors in this film were good. Coming to the music, I liked the song Khud Ko Kya Samajhti Hai and Hum Yaar Hain Yaaron Ki. The music of the film was composed by Jatin-Lalit. This film was an amazing entertainer and there were just some parts of the film that kept me laughing to the core. Such as Akshay and Deepak trying to be girls just to meet their respective love interests. I mean, after this, who would not love Akshay as an actor? Other than being an amazing action hero, he is also able to pull off comical roles well. I hope to see Akshay doing more comical films. I mean, I am waiting for Housefull 4, which will release towards the end of 2019. Besides the comical and action parts of the film, there is more to the story. The lesson we need to learn in this film is to never play such major pranks that can actually affect the lives of someone's family. It is okay to joke around and play pranks that would not hurt anybody badly. But, avoid pranks that can affect people's lives such as lying that someone is kidnapped just to show that anyone can bow down to you, which was shown in the film by the way. Another thing that we can learn is to not develop the habit of betting. Once you get into the habit of betting, you just keep on losing money. In fact, the money you have with you can be used for so many better things like shopping, food, holidays and all of that. Should I watch it?
If you want a youthful action film, you should watch this film then! Who is it suited for? It is suited for: - Akshay Kumar lovers - Those who love comical scenes in an action film - Viewers who want deeper lessons to a youthful film. Hindi Medium Review - Underprivileged children have the same rights to be educated like rich kids2/23/2019 Hindi Medium is a 2017 Hindi film that talks about parents Raj Batra (Portrayed by Irrfan Khan) and Mita Batra (Portrayed by Saba Qamar), want to send their daughter Pia Batra (Portrayed by Shayna Patel) to a top school in Delhi which uses English as the medium for communication between teachers and children, as they do not want to suffer the . Raj and Mita were introduced to a consultant named Shikha (Portrayed by Tillotama Shome), who grooms them for the interview to get Pia's application for her admission for various top schools. However, the schools have rejected their application as it was exposed that both Raj and Mita are not strong in English. So, they finally try for Delhi Grammar School. However, there is a condition. All applicants for the school will have to live within a three kilometers radius, so the Batra family moves to Vasant Vihar, a region in South Delhi. Soon enough, Raj and Mita learn from an employee that they have got admission for their child through the Right To Education (RTE) Quota, which is a scheme for poor people to send in applications for their kids to top schools of Delhi. Raj and Mita decided to apply for Pia's admission through that scheme and shift to a local area filled with poor people and start to act poor so as to get the admission for their daughter. During their stay, they form a friendship with Shyam (Portrayed by Deepak Dobriyal), Tulsi (Portrayed by Swati Das) and their son, Mohan (Portrayed by Angshuman Nandi). Shyam and Tulsi have also applied for their son to study in Delhi Grammar School through the RTE quota. At the lottery day, 10 lucky children from the RTE scheme gets the opportunity to study in Delhi Grammar School. Pia's application get accepted. However, Mohan's application did not get accepted. Feeling guilty, Raj and Mita make a humongous donation to the Bharat Nagar Government School, where Mohan studies, which in turn, enhances the condition of the school thoroughly, along with improving the condition of the classrooms and the books used to educate children. As Shyam and Tulsi saw their son reading in fluent English, they burst into tears and went to see the principal. The principal gave the address of the donor, which leads Shyam to Raj's house in Vasant Vihar, eventually finding out the truth about Raj pretending to be poor for Pia's admission. Before Shyam could meet the principal (Portrayed by Amrita Singh), Raj and Mita got to meet her. As Raj requests her to remove Pia's application and tells the truth, she rejects doing so. In turn, Raj gives a speech about education rights to the entire auditorium filled with rich parents and leaves the auditorium. Both Raj and Mita have sent Pia to study in Bharat Nagar Government School, where Mohan studies as well. Irrfan was wonderful in this film! He has played the role of a rich business tycoon in Delhi, who was educated in a Hindi Medium school throughout his life. He has perfectly shown that no matter how rich or poor you are, you can't just change into another person overnight. It takes time to change or maybe you will not change at all because you are comfortable with who you are as a person or who you have grown up into, if you get what I am saying. Saba did well for her first role. Though sometimes, I felt that she did not suit this role so much as she looks so rich herself that when she goes into a poor avatar, it is hard to believe that she is poor. But, when I saw her during that part of the film, I do think that she actually suited this role as compared to Huma Qureshi. But nevertheless, she did well. Initially, I thought Huma would be the lead female actress as Saba did remind me a bit of Huma before I watched the film, probably because of the facial features. People like Saba (In the film), experience the fear of being judged, the fear of their child being mocked at for not knowing proper english, the fear of not being able to survive in the world and many other things. But at the end of the day, all they want is the best for their children. Deepak Dobriyal, Amrita Singh and the entire supporting cast did amazingly well in whatever roles they were assigned to do. Deepak has perfectly shown how poor people in India live, what they have to do to get money, how they survive in small houses in poor slums and all of that. Amrita has perfectly shown what a school principal would do to keep up with the reputation of her school. She would just want to earn money and live a lavish life. Truth is, not all principals actually care for the well-being of financially poor kids. But rather, they only care about their own lives. Which is why, she was shown to reject Irrfan's proposal in removing his daughter's application. The music of this film was composed by Sachin-Jigar. Well, the only song I liked was Hoor, which was picturised on how Irrfan and Saba's character fell in love when they were young. This song was sung by Pakistani singer Atif Aslam. The first half did not entertain me so much as compared to the second half of the film. It was nice seeing rich people experiencing how poor people live and how they struggle to make a living. I believe that it is important for rich people to experience how poor people live so that they do not take things for granted and that rather, they should be thankful for whatever they have and work for more. Secondly, it also shows how rich people can actually stoop so low to live their own lives to the fullest. There are rich couples in India, who actually pretend to be poor in India, so that they can pay lesser for their child's education and get admission for their children, as you know, India is a competitive country for anything. Be it music, education, dance, jobs, sports or whatever. In a country of 1.3 billion people, not everyone can get a satisfying life. Not everyone is lucky to move out of the country for a better life. Not everyone is lucky to come out of poverty. This is the sad truth that we have to absorb. But you know why not everyone is lucky to get a better life? Other than fate, rich people constantly take away the rights of education for poor kids. I think this is unfair for poor kids who want to fight against poverty for a better life. This is also what plays a part in India's corrupt government and system for the selfish benefit of principals or politicians. From black money to bribary to lack of diligence to fake forms and passports, India just has a long way to go for corruption to be gone. Should I watch it?
You must. It is a serious issue that everyone needs to know about. Who is it suited for? It is suited for: - Irrfan Khan fans. - People who love films on realistic issues. - People who choose talent over nepotism. I suffered a tremendous feeling of shock, abandonment and sadness while watching this film and makes me wonder about a lot of things. Although this is not a review that will be released this friday, it is this week's released review, which means that this friday, there is no review going to be released. Chennai Express is a 2013 Hindi Action Comedy film that revolves around a North Sweet Seller named Rahul Mithaiwala (Portrayed by Shahrukh Khan), who comes from Mumbai. Post his grandfather's death, his grandmother has asked him to go to Rameshwaram, a small city in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu to immerse his ashes. As Rahul is hesitant on going to Rameshwaram and immersing his ashes, he secretly makes a plan to go to Goa with his friends to party. However, as he misses his train due to helping a South Indian girl named Meenalochani Azhagusundaram (Portrayed by Deepika Padukone), who is also known as Meenamma, hails from a village in Tamil Nadu called Komban. along with helping four other goons. Meenamma is expected to marry Tangaballi (Portrayed by Nikitin Dheer) by her father, Durgeshwara Azhagusundaram (Portrayed by Sathyaraj), a don who is powerful in his village. However, Meenamma does not want to marry Tangaballi and ran away from marrying him. Rahul has to save her from this marriage and fight for Meenamma's freedom. Shahrukh Khan was good as usual. He shows us how a North Indian would normally behave when in South India, especially Tamil Nadu. In Tamil Nadu, people will like you if you speak Tamil. If you don't, you face a lot of discrimination and will get a lot of degrading comments that can really hurt the sentiments of other people from most Tamil locals in that state. So, I was not affected by his performance that much. To a certain extent, I was affected by Deepika Padukone's performance. She is a South Indian herself. But, her performance did look like she was stereotyping South Indians and she supported it. Though she may say she is not spoofing South Indian people, it did look like she was, especially Tamilians. I did love her half-sarees and hairstyles and jewellery though! Manish Malhotra did a good job for the costumes for Deepika's character! :) Sathyaraj and all the other South Indian actors did what they had to do and honestly, they did not have much to do in the film. More than Sathyaraj, Nikitin Dheer had a bigger part to play in this film. He was the main villain in this film as his character was someone who would marry Deepika at any cost, in this film at least. So, nothing much to say actually. The comedy in this film was a flop. Rather, this film sparked a lot of negative sentiments of Indians, particularly South Indians. What was worse is the fact that this film was inspired from 2003 Telugu film Okkadu, just to make it a South Indian masala film and to make South Indians feel accepted and all of that. Well, if Bollywood wants to accept South India, show the true beauty and learn from Baaghi, The Dirty Picture and Alone (2015 Horror Hindi film). Now, the music, which was composed by Vishal-Shekhar, was fine as South Indian music is mostly full of masala and melody. Since the film is a masala action comedy film based down South, there has to be some South Indian instruments used in the music. Although I hated the film, I did appreciate the music very much as a whole though. You can definitely dance to the film's item song, 1 2 3 4! Now, what exactly offended me in this film was the fact that Tamilians think that those who speak Tamil are considered Indians, which is again, true from personal experiences. One scene in the film of Tamil policemen assumes Shahrukh Khan to be a smuggler just because he travels with Tamil drug addicts. When he tries to explain himself that he is not a drug smuggler in Hindi, the Tamil policemen do not believe him. However, when he says he knows people from Tamil Nadu, then the Tamil policemen will say that he is Indian just because he knows Tamil people. I mean, this scene was especially offensive to me as the scene looked like North Indians, Bengalis, Marathi-speaking people and Gujaratis are not considered Indians just because we do not know anyone who is a Tamil native or we do not speak Tamil. This scene was disgusting as hell. It just sparks racism amongst Indians. Another thing that made me uncomfortable with this film was the fact that at least 50% of the dialogues are in Tamil. First of all, most of the audience of Bollywood are those residing out of Tamil Nadu. Secondly, most of us do not know Tamil. Why put so many Tamil dialogues? I felt uncomfortable with this film as I do not know Tamil and that there were so many Tamil dialogues that would make people think what are people saying. It is ok to put basic Tamil words such as "Amma", "Appa", "Aiyyo Rama", "Illai" and all. We have no problem of Hindi and Tamil fusion. Like in Singham (2011), characters in the film would use some Marathi words and mix it with Hindi words in their sentences so as to not make the North Indian audiences feel left out with too much Marathi. Also, with a little Marathi words in the film once in a while, it also makes the film believable that it is set in Maharashtra and Goa or that the characters are really Marathi natives, though keeping in mind that the film is a Hindi film. We are ok with a few regional language words being fused with Hindi. See, there is nothing wrong with making your story set base in South India. One example of a Bollywood film set in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, South India is The Dirty Picture (2011). Vidya Balan is the main lead of the film, who portrays a South Indian actress named Silk Smitha. However, that film did not have too many Tamil Dialogues as the director, Milan Luthria, knows that the North Indian audience will feel left out and not acknowledged. The way Vidya Balan ate Idlis and Vadais at the start makes me feel so hungry that I want to binge on them! Another Hindi film that was set base in South India is Baaghi (2016). The story was set in Kerala, South India, and the film showed a lot of things that actually represents the state's beautiful culture. From Kalaripayattu to Kathakali to Thirayattam... This film actually shows the true beauty of South India, which made me appreciate the true beauty of South India rather than the dumb film Chennai Express. The villanous character, Raghav Shetty (Portrayed by Sudheer Babu), is a South Indian. However, he is an Urban South Indian guy and did not have that stereotypical South Indian accent when he speaks, but rather, he sounds North Indian and adapted to both North and South Indian characters in the film, which helps to break South Indian stereotypes in India. After seeing this film, I can see why many people hate it. It is racist towards South Indians, especially Malayalis, which fuels up more racism in India. See, Nobody will have a problem if a Hindi film's plot is based in South India and a lot of South India's culture is shown. That is a good way of embracing other cultures and making them accepted. But then, over-exaggerating and stereotyping is just wrong. I am not surprised if Deepika won a lot of Best Actress awards just for mocking non-Tamil South Indians with that strong Tamil accent. I would have understood if she won Best Actress for Race 2 or Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani... But after seeing award ceremonies in 2014, I feel disgusted. I feel that racism in India is just increasing and it is disgusting. Even Baaghi shows North Indian characters who embraces the culture of South India way better than Chennai Express did. Should I watch it?
Whether you are a South Indian or not, DO NOT DARE WATCH THIS FILM! This is Rohit Shetty's most disgusting direction compared to Singham, Singham Returns and All The Best! This is probably Deepika's worst film selection to star in. There are so many films of Deepika Padukone there are much better than this pile of crap in Chennai Express. Although Deepika looked gorgeous in this film! And this is also one of Shahrukh's worst decisions. He is such an amazing actor, I do not understand why he feels the need to do such racist, idiotic and ignorant films. I miss the old Shahrukh Khan. If you ask me which Shahrukh films to watch, I would suggest those in the 1990s. If you do not believe me that this film is a disgrace to South Indians, read the interview linked here on Quora. Darr was the film that did wonders to Shahrukh Khan's career in the early 90s. Even though he was just starting out as an actor at that point of time, he has proven that he can be successful in the film industry. Darr was one of the films that made people fall in love with him as an actor even more. This Valentine season, go and check out this beautiful and mad love story and go into a #FLASHBACKFRIDAY mood. Darr is a 1993 Romantic Drama Hindi film which revolves around a guy named Rahul Mehra (Portrayed by Shahrukh Khan), who is obsessed with Kiran Awasty (Portray by Juhi Chawla). But however, Kiran is dating a navy officer named Sunil Malhotra (Portrayed by Sunny Deol). Rahul is so obsessed with Kiran to the extent that he will stalk her 24/7 and follow her wherever she goes and even would try to break their relationship, even if that meant death for him. So, this was Shahrukh Khan's first film as a villain. He earned his first nomination for the Best Villain in the Filmfare Awards ceremony in the year of 1994. However, he did not win the award. But despite that, it is considered as one of Shahrukh's best performances in his career as a guy who is obsessed with a girl and would do anything to get her. Because it was his first film in a negative role in his entire career, I watched the entire film. So, I usually wondered why Shahrukh was called the King of Romance in Bollywood. Just because he does a lot of Romantic films and Romanced with so many girls on-screen does not mean that he is the King of Romance. But now, after seeing Darr, I now realized why he is known as Bollywood's King of Romance. It is because he can play any type of lover. From an obsessive lover in Darr (1993), to a man who commits adultery in Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006), to a lover who would love someone different from him in Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), to a lover where professions did not matter to him in Main Hoon Na (2004) and to a lover who was an alcoholic in Devdas (2002). He can literally play the role of a lover in any form. Plus, he can have a lot of risky affairs. From loving a don's daughter in Chennai Express (2013), to loving a teacher in Main Hoon Na (2004), to falling head over heels for a woman who is committed to another man in Anjaam (1994). He literally can play roles of the riskiest lovers, which not many other actors would do. So, while watching Darr, I fell in love with his acting and the obsession that he displays. Even though Sunny Deol was the main male lead of the film, more people paid attention to Shahrukh Khan as his character made a bigger impact on a story rather than Sunny's character, who just plays the good navy officer and makes Shahrukh's character stay away from their lives. Coming to Juhi Chawla, she has truly shown how a girl would feel and think when a man constantly stalks her. She even shows what a girl would do when she is constantly followed around by a guy. I like that she makes the character so relatable to us females. She has done the role well. And coming to Sunny Deol, even though he was the main lead of the film, his character did not have to do much. Like I said earlier, Shahrukh had a bigger impact on the film as Shahrukh's character does more things relevant to the film's plot. In fact, I even think that Sunny should have been the supporting characters and that Shahrukh should be the lead of this film as the film mainly revolves around Shahrukh and Juhi's character. All male or female leads need not always play the good character. Sometimes, negative characters can also be the main leads of the film. The main supporting actors, Tanvi Azmi and Anupam Kher, have added the comedy element to the film, which is their contribution in making the film slightly less intense. Annu Kapoor was more like a cameo actor in this film rather than the main supporting actor, but nevertheless, he contributed to the film by adding more thrill and mystery to the film as his character takes the blame of being the guy who was obsessed with Juhi Chawla in the film. Coming to the film's music, which was composed by Shiv-Hari, the music was ok... Although I do have one favourite song, which plays at the starting part of the film. It's called Jaadu Teri Nazar, which shows Shahrukh singing for Juhi and indirectly confessing his love for Juhi in the film by singing, 'Tu haan kar ya naa kar, Tu Hai Meri Kiran! (Translation: Whether you say yes or no, You are mine, Kiran!)' Honestly, seeing this film makes me miss the old Shahrukh so much. I miss his films in the 90s and the decade between 2000 to 2010. His films were really good then and would pick amazing scripts. But ever since 2012, he just picks films which could probably help him retain his fame as King Khan or the number one actor in Bollywood. But I just feel he is going downhill for picking bad scripts such as Chennai Express (2013), Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012), Zero (2018), Jab Harry Met Sejal (2017), Happy New Year (2014). Though one of my favourite films of his between 2011 and now would be Fan, which released in 2016. The reason why I love Fan is because Fan is a relatable story. There are fans of celebrities in this world who are obsessed with celebrities, of course, and will do anything to meet their favourite actor or singer. They can even write a letter in blood or pull their hair out or scratch their face. To be honest, I cannot say anything much about Dilwale (2015) as I have not seen the film. Another reason I love Darr is because it is realistic, despite the singing and dancing in this film. This film shows something that can happen even in real life. Even if it is the 20th or 21st Century, anything freaky can happen. Should I watch it?
Since this is one of the most unique love stories in the 90s, watch it. Shahrukh's performance is so addictive that you would miss the old him and binge watch his old films. Who is it suited for? It is suited for: - People who love relatable stories - Fans of Romance and Drama - Shahrukh Khan fans As Bobby Deol's birthday falls on the 27th of January, I am writing on the 25th of January instead of the 26th because 26th of January is India's Republic Day. So, a post on Republic Day would be made to pay a tribute to India and our soldiers who have given their life to represent and serve our country. So, Kareeb is a 1998 Hindi film that talks about a man from an upper middle-class family named Birju (Portrayed by Bobby Deol), who lives with his parents, brother, sister-in-law and nephew. Birju's father (Portrayed by Saurabh Shukla), hopes that Birju would take up some responsibility. However, Birju does not listen to his father and is only interested in petty thefts, lies and romancing a young and beautiful woman named Neha (Portrayed by Shabana Raza). When Birju proposes marriage to Neha by lying that she has a rich uncle, his parents approve of it, hoping that his marriage with Neha would set him on another path. However, when Birju's father finds out that he, Birju, has lied about Neha coming from a rich family, the father calls off their wedding. Neha's mother (Portrayed by Moushumi Chatterjee), not being able to handle the emotional distress, suffers with a heart attack. When Birju comes to see Neha, fuming with anger at Birju for lying and worried about her mother, Neha makes Birju promise that he will never show his face to her again. On the same night, Birju sleeps on the steps of a laundry shop owned by Bhigelal (Portrayed by Johnny Lever) and hires Birju as his laundry boy. Birju took up the job as he wanted to earn some money for Neha's mother's treatment. One day after work, Birju meets Uncle and Aunty (Portrayed by Shammi Kapoor and Sushma Seth). They treat Birju as their own son and offer to help him whenever he needs it. At the hospital, Birju enquires about Neha's mother, the receptionist told that she needs an immediate operation which would cost INR125000 (US$1759.58). Doctor Abhay (Portrayed by Abhay Chopra) then appears after Neha tries to contact Birju for help but is unable to reach him. Doctor Abhay is very fond of Neha and proposes to marry her in exchange for her mother's operation for free because doctors are able to provide free services to their relatives. In need of money, Birju goes to meet Uncle and Aunty to ask for money. They propose that he buys a lottery ticket, ensuring that he will win by bribing corrupt government officials. Asking Birju for the money for the bribe, Birju buys the lottery ticket and works all day all night just to return money for the bribe. He then pays the couple the money but eventually realizes that they were not the couple they claimed to be. He also finds out that the couple have done the same thing to other people and ran away. Leaving Birju with no choice, he steals INR125000 from his boss, Bhigelal, for Neha's mother's surgery and goes to the hospital to give the money to doctor Abhay who is treating Neha's mother and tells him not to tell Neha how he got the money. Eventually realizing Birju's love for Neha, his family goes to Shimla, a city in North Indian state Himachal Pradesh to support him. As they have reached Shimla, they handle things with Bhigelal, who goes mad on seeing his robbed drawer along with Birju's note, stating that he will return INR125000 to him. Neha finds out that Birju helped her and wants to meet him. As both Neha and Birju meet in the hospital again, they reconcile and fall in love again. Bobby was too cute in this film. I loved his acting in the film. Though one thing. He is too handsome to play an upper middle-class boy. But let's think of it. Upper middle-class people are expected to look at least more good-looking than poor people or middle-class people, as per social status. The reason why I say social status is because you know, we expect people to look a certain way to represent something. If it was not Bobby Deol who would be the main lead of this film, I think another person who could do this would be Aamir Khan. But nevertheless, Bobby has put in his best in the film and I really appreciate that. He did bring the film to life with his expressions. However, coming to the songs, I think Bobby would do a lot more justice to it than Aamir Khan. If I were to compare in terms of acting and songs altogether, Bobby Deol beats Aamir only because of the songs. Acting wise, both of them would do justice to the role of Birju. Shabana Raza did her role as the female lead perfectly. Neha is supposed to be a girl who is lighthearted, giggly, honest, soft, family-oriented and someone diligent. Basically the seedhi-saadhi kind of girl, who was beautiful as well. Shabana would be the only one who would suit the role and she did justice to the role. Her chemistry with Bobby Deol was so good that I was glued to the screen and their chemistry. Coming to the supporting characters, Saurabh Shukla and Johnny Lever were amazing. In fact Johnny Lever is one of the best comedians we have in Bollywood, especially during the decade of the 90s and the 2000s. I loved him in Baazigar (1993), All The Best (2009), De Dana Dan (2009), Race (2008), Humraaz (2002) and Ajnabee (2001) in his comic roles! Johnny constantly adds comedy to the films and makes them interesting. But, I will also give credit to the other supporting actors who have brought life to the film. They have also done their bit to give this film life and emotions. Coming to the film's direction, I love that Vidhu Vinod Chopra makes the actors feel the emotions that their characters are supposed to feel. However, sometimes, I feel that maybe Vidhu makes the actors over-exaggerate a little, which can possibly end up looking fake at times. But otherwise, it is fine. The music is something that I love. I love how Anu Malik also adds magic to the film with his music compositions. To be frank, I do kind of miss Anu Malik's music compositions. He is definitely one of my favourite music directors in the 1990s. Fun fact about this film? This film was released JUST A DAY before I came into this world. This filmed released on the 17th of July in the year of 1998. I came into this world on the 18th of July in the year of 1998. I would say that one thing I have learnt from this film would be the struggles one makes just to work under a boss. One has to slog day and night just to make a living. Bobby's character slogged day and night just to help Shabana's character in financing for her on-screen mother's treatment. I can definitely say that life as a middle-class person is not easy for sure. But I can definitely vouch that people who come from financially middle-class families learn how to cherish things a lot. From their health to their money to what they eat and all of that, they just benefit in the future. I have a very bad habit of spending a lot. However, as I know that I am going to India in April and will not be in Singapore for a few months at least, so one thing that will teach me to save is the fact that since Sephora is not available in Jaipur, plus I am interning until 25th of February, I should binge shop when I get my intern pay, along with my money that I saved from my pocket money. That way, I am able to buy more things and enjoy a lot more. Makeup is definitely something that I love more than myself. I am sure any cosmetic fan or follower would be able to relate to my love for cosmetics and makeup. I would aspire to live a lavish and posh life in the future, yet, keep to my middle-class values, which helps keep me humbled, but also, a person who can stand up for herself and not tolerate any nonsense that will impact on my health. I myself come from an upper middle-class family and I can say that my family has given me a lot of values that will help me in my future, along with the life experiences that was thrown at me in this lifetime. I have learnt what is morally right and wrong. Another thing that I have learnt is that we must care for the happiness of our loved ones. Dowry and all of that should never come into consideration if someone from our family loves another person who comes from a financially weaker family. We are in the 21st Century now and we do not need to talk about dowry and God knows what other nonsense. Should I watch it?
You must! Despite the slight over-exaggeration. I love it! A beautiful love story in fact. Who is it suited for? It is suited for: - Families - People who love the feeling of romance - Bobby Deol fans |
